![]() It works in much the same way and bears a similar user interface. Mac Pro Video has some very nice videos about MainStage if you want to jump in quickly.MainStage might be thought of as a companion app to Logic Pro. Its nice if you have a controller that is permanently setup to play an instrument that never changes, like a piano or organ. If you wanted to play a piano and have it always available no matter what patch or set you are in, you can put it at the Concert level, but I rarely see musicians needing this. For example, a reverb or delay Aux return. The only channel strips you want at the Concert level are channels you always want playing at all times. So in this way, you might finish your song and advance to the first patch in the next set and doing this will cause Playback to begin playing the next song. You can set Playback to start automatically when you switch to a Set that contains it. However, when you switch from this Set to the next Set, The old Playback will stop playing. This is because its in a level above the patches. Because Playback is at the set level, you can switch between patches and Playback will continue to play. Next select the Set folder in the patch list and add an instrument channel strip and add Playback to it. Sets look like folders and its an easy way to keep your songs organized. Ok, so for this scenario, you need to create a Set and put the patches you want to play with inside the Set. When you reach the end of the song, you probably want to start another instance of Playback with a new set of backing tracks and along with that play a few sounds. Lets say you played keyboards and wanted to play 4 separate instruments during the course of your song. The way the hierarchy works is very powerful, so once you get your head around it, you can start choices about what works best for your scenario.Ī very common Playback scenario is playing backing tracks for a song and then while that's playing, you might play keyboards, guitar or sing or maybe all three. I know this can be done, I have just gotten stuck at this point. So the big question is… what is the best way to set up MainStage (3) to go between say a couple of patches(in a set I assume, we can think of it as a song) and have backing tracks going (while changing, that's why they are in a set) have my buttons work for start/stop and fade out, and have let's say at least 10 songs(sets)? If I could only use playback for one track it defeats the purpose. If I put a channel strip back at concert level the controls work but I can only have one track. ![]() I can't seem to get to the parameters to setup the start/stop and fade out buttons from set/patch level, only at concert level do those parameters show up. So I deleted them and tried to remap them per set. At concert level they worked, at set level they did not. Problem is I can't use my transport controls. This seems right unlike the concert level. It seems like I can have playback in set 1(song 1) and set 2(song 2) and it will load one track in one set and a different track in another set. I tried it at patch level also at some point. Ok so I thought maybe I would delete the strip in the concert and try to only add the strip with playback in the set level. Wrong! It seemed to only want to play one track per concert which I believe the manual mentions. I figured I would just switch the tracks per set/patch. I tried to set up channel strip with playback and a couple of buttons to trigger start/stop and fade out, at concert level so it would always show up in all sets/patches. I do feel like I understand(I think I do.?) the levels-Concert-Set-Patch. Probably more important on set level so if I need to switch patches during a track. In other words I want to be able to switch from patch to patch or set to set and have a different playback for each one as I play synths from other channel strips. I want to have tracks for multiple songs. I am trying to run backing tracks in the playback plugin. I am starting off with a big post! Here we go… This is enough difficulty that I signed on to this forum! I have watched all the youtube videos and I am a little stuck. I have read plenty of threads but yet to see my exact issue covered, although it may have been.
